Characterizing Thin-Films

     FTIR Measurements

Just as we use FTIR to characterize suspensions using ATR-FTIR, we can also use this instrument to analyze the interaction of molecules with surfaces For example, we can determine how photocatalytic reactions break down organic contaminants in irradiated titanium dioxide (TiO₂) films. We can examine the structure of water as a function of temperature, pH, light, and applied potential inside pores. By coupling two FTIR system together, we have been able to watch molecules degrade on the particle surface and products form in the gas-phase.
